Message from the President:
Welcome Back! I hope you find the information contained in this newsletter helpful. Our intent is to make sure we keep parents updated on what’s happening at the Middle School, and give everyone the information and opportunity to get involved so that all of our children have a successful and positive Middle School experience. They may not be “babies” anymore, but that doesn’t mean they don’t need us. As a matter of fact, I believe just the opposite. The middle school years are a time where children are trying to determine where they “fit in” socially as well as academically, and a time where they are shaping the course of where their education in Bay Shore will take them. Whether they are Regents level students, Honor students or Accelerated students, they all need guidance and direction even if they won’t admit it to you. A parent who makes it a point to stay informed is a parent with power. Just imagine how much easier it becomes to help a child study for an exam when you know exactly when the exam is. Or how you can guide a child who is trying to find where they “fit in” when you have information on the numerous after school clubs and activities they have available to them.
The PFA wants to aid you in the process of guiding your children. We hold meetings periodically to keep parents informed, bring information of interest to you, and give you the opportunity to meet other parents in the same situation . If you haven’t yet attended a PFA meeting, try to do so before the year ends. You might be surprised at what you learn! If your schedule or circumstances prohibit you from attending a meeting, you can still stay informed and involved. Send us your email address so that we can add you to our group email notifications. Check our website, www.bsmspfa.org weekly for any updates and useful information on upcoming events. Try to attend at least one or two ( if you can’t make them all) parents as partner meetings during the course of the year. This program has been very successful in taking the home/school connection to a new level. You can never again claim you didn’t know what was going on!
I hope you take the time to review the information contained here. Remember, an informed parent is a parent with power! Enjoy!
